The Catholic Youth Organization of New York (CYO NY) is one of the oldest youth basketball organizations in the state of New York and the entire country. Since 1936, CYO has been where basketball players of all levels have honed their craft.

The synergies between our two organizations are obvious and strong. At the heart of our teachings and systematic approach to basketball, we believe that every player has to be given the opportunity to succeed both on and off the court in a positive and safe environment.

The mission of CYO is to provide the highest quality programs to our young people. We are committed to provide these programs based on integrity, fair play and the right of all individuals to participate. We view our responsibility as extending far beyond the mere teaching of athletic skills. Our programs offer the opportunity to develop moral standards in all of our young people.

The partnership between us will bring more camps, clinics, and programs to players in the area. This summer we are kicking things off with 3 weeks of camp for our younger ages and a shooting lab + 3×3 league for our teenagers!

Schedule for camp

  • We start with a dynamic warm-up. This includes agility ladder work, reaction-time games, and ball-toughness drills to get the mind and body ready to play all day.

  • Campers rotate through high-repetition stations. Led by our USA Basketball Gold certified coaches, these stations focus on:

    • European Footwork: Mastering the foot work, pivots, and efficient movement to create space in the game.

    • The Shooting Pocket: Developing a quick, consistent release with proper alignment.

Creative Finishing: Learning how to finish through contact with both hands using various angles (floaters, Euro-steps, and power finishes).

  • This is where we apply the skills from the Lab. We use 1v1, 2v2, and 3v3 scenarios with specific constraints to force players to read the defense and make decisions under pressure.

  • Athletes refuel and socialize in a supervised environment. Campers can bring their own lunch or purchase at check in daily.

  • We take this time to grow the "mental" side of the game. Coaches lead Chalk Talks on court spacing, defensive rotations, and leadership. Occasionally, we host guest speakers—current college players or professional coaches—to share their journey and what it takes to reach the next level.

  • Each day features a specific "Masterclass" topic, such as:

    • The Art of the Pass: Timing, velocity, and window-finding.

    • Lockdown Defense: Stance, communication, and help-side awareness.

Pick-and-Roll Navigation: How to read the screen and the hedge.

  • The energy peaks here. We run structured 5-on-5 games where coaches are on the sidelines coaching through competitive games.

  • We wrap up with a group recap. We highlight "Players of the Day" not just for scoring, but for being the best teammate, the hardest worker, or the highest IQ player.

The Two-Hour Format

First Hour: The Shooting Lab (6:00 PM – 7:00 PM)

Master your shot under the guidance of High School and College coaches

  • Proper mechanics and footwork.

  • Shooting off the catch and the dribble.

  • Game-speed repetitions to build muscle memory.

Second Hour: 3-on-3 League (7:00 PM – 8:00 PM)

Put your skills to the test in a competitive league format.

FIBA Rules: All games adhere to official FIBA 3x3 rules, promoting faster play, more touches, and better spacing.

High Intensity: 3-on-3 is the ultimate tool for developing basketball IQ and read-and-react skills.

Here is why our Summer Shooting Lab & 3x3 League is the most effective two hours your athlete will spend on the court this summer:

  • 40% More Touches: In 3-on-3, there is nowhere to hide. With fewer players on the floor, every athlete is statistically guaranteed more touches, more shots, and more defensive rotations.

  • The 12-Second Clock: We play by official FIBA rules, including a 12-second shot clock. This forces players to make split-second decisions, eliminating over-dribbling and teaching them how to read and react at game speed.

  • Position-less Basketball: Bigs have to handle the ball; guards have to rebound and finish inside. 3-on-3 breaks players out of assigned positions and forces them to develop a complete, well-rounded skill set.

  • Maximum Space: With the paint unclogged, players can finally see the passing lanes and driving gaps. This builds a high-level Basketball IQ that translates directly to the 5-on-5 game.

The result: A more confident, higher-IQ player who knows how to impact the game every time they step on the floor.
